About The EvenT Contact Last Year's Soirée
Mission
The Sunset Soirée is an uplifting event dedicated to honoring the countless trailblazers fighting for LGBTQ+ rights in Maryland. It promotes the mission of FreeState Justice (FSJ), an organization committed to the decriminalization of HIV in Maryland. It blends justice, Pride, and artistic expression, bringing together cultural influencers and fierce advocates for an evening of education, entertainment, and empowerment.
Get ready for an open bar (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), endless hor'doeurves, and a night of dancing with locals from across MD!
Objective
The Sunset Soirée's theme this year is Busting Out of the 80s. Not only will this be a celebration of that era's culture, but a recognition of the massive difficulties our community faced during that time — namely, the 100,000+ people who died from HIV due to a lack of governmental support. Despite this, LGBTQ+ activists fought back, furthering the fight for rights that persists today and developing the iconic style that came to define the 80s.
Although there have been significant rollbacks on hard-fought progress recently, FreeState Justice is here to honor 80s trailblazers by fighting for continued progress and representation for all.
This year's objective is to remind advocates that while we love the style, this isn't the 80s, and we have the resources ready to fight for our community no matter what comes our way!
